Our Mission

Are you 18 to 24 years old and navigating the road of aspirations? Kia Ahumahi!, a free service in Canterbury, is here for you. We support young people experiencing challenges in obtaining work, who are ready to move into meaningful employment.

Our mission is simple: To empower you to take the next steps to obtain meaningful, life changing employment.

What Kia Ahumahi! Offers

We provide a 6-month program to help you find employment and then up to 12 months to help you maintain it. Our team is here to guide, support, and celebrate your achievements through:

  • Employment Support

    • One-on-one sessions with an Employment Consultant offering tailored support for looking, applying and obtaining employment.

  • Barriers and Health Support

    • Our Employment Specialists are here to help you navigate personal barriers, depression, anxiety, or limiting behaviours. We aim to enlist outside organisations to help support our clients reach their full potential.​

  • Funding Support

    • Financial assistance for job search, travel, and health-related needs — managed by Odyssey House.

  • Motivational Workshops

    • ​Foundational workshops to enhances your understanding of what’s required in Job applications and prepares you for future employment. Some of the topics covered are:

      • ​Career Foundations & Goal Setting

      • Understanding Job Descriptions

      • CV & Cover Letter Essentials

      • Job Search & Interview Preparation

      • Work Readiness & Professional Behaviour

      • Understanding Your Employment Agreement

      • Workplace Orientation & Compliance

      • Work and Income – Myths & Facts
