The Alcohol Drug Association NZ Inc (ADANZ) has been wound up at the end June 2016.
The background to this decision is as follows:
In 2013 the Ministry of Health announced that seven of the main health funded helplines including Healthline, Quitline, Poison Line, Gambling line, Depression line an Immunisation line along with the Alcohol Drug Helpline delivered by ADANZ would be incorporated into a new integrated National Telehealth Service delivered by a single provider.  A lengthy tender process concluded in early 2015 when Homecare Medical was awarded  the contract.

A consequence of this was that ADANZ lost 60% of its funding from 31 October 2015 and is no longer financially sustainable as a result.
In 2015 the ADANZ Board carried out a review
of the organisation which included consideration given to merging with another organisation. Following a robust process, the decision was made that ADANZ would merge with the Odyssey House Trust Christchurch (OHTC).

Remaining ADANZ services would be transferred to Odyssey to utilise their clinical and management infrastructure and four of the ADANZ board members would join the OHTC board with a new constitution in place.  ADANZ as a separate organisation would be wound up and dissolved.

ADANZ members approved this decision at a special general meeting in December 2015. The ADANZ board believes this is a positive outcome as it provides for the ongoing delivery of remaining services and offers an opportunity for the knowledge and assets ADANZ has accumulated to be a legacy for the future.
